This Week in Reno {August 26-September 1}

This Week in Reno is a weekly feature. Rather than trying to put up a comprehensive list of everything happening in the upcoming week, every Tuesday I’ll post a curated list of events that are noteworthy or look like fun to me. I’ll let you know which I plan to attend, so make sure to say hey if you see me! I’ll also post pictures of the events I attended the week before.

Last Week

Ruby, Kevin and I went to the Greek Festival at St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church and had a blast. My husband loves gyros. Really loves them. They are his favorite food. Ruby enjoyed her first one ever. I ate some amazing spanakopita. We listened to a local Greek band and watched some people dancing their hearts out. Greek Festival at St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church and had a blast. My husband loves gyros. Really loves them. My girls (including Maybelline Scout)  and I checked out the Nevada Humane Society Duck Races at Wingfield park as well. So much fun. It was a gorgeous day, there were food trucks, live music, and swimming in the Truckee River for Ruby and Mae. Nevada Humane Society Duck Races at Wingfield park as well. So much fun. Next Week

The 26th Annual Nugget Best in the West Rib Cook-off

When: August 27 through September 1, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day except Sept. 1 when it ends at 5 p.m.
Where: Sparks Victorian Square
Cost: The event is free, but there are plenty of things to spend money on!
There’s free parking at Legends with a shuttle to take you to the event. In addition to the food (mmm…) there’s five stages with live music, a carnival, and a kid’s area. I’m pretty sure I’ll be at this one with my family on Sunday.

The Aces are playing their last home game of the regular season this week against the Omaha Storm Chasers.

When: Wednesday, August 27, 7:05 p.m.
Where: Aces Ballpark
How Much: $8 general admission

The Reno Music Project host’s an all-ages acoustic open mic every Friday. This event has been going on since 2002 and it looks pretty amazing. I’m going to have to check it out.

When: Friday, August 29th from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Wildflower Village – 4395 W 4th St, Reno, NV
How Much: Free!

The Reno Street Food: Party in the Park is happening every Friday night through October 3. Reno has some killer food trucks and Friday is soccer practice night so don’t be surprised to find me and Ruby here one Friday night.

When: Friday, August 29, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Idlewild Park
How Much: Depends on how hungry you are . . .

If I can find someone to drag to the Grand Sierra with me, I’m so down for this one! Survivor for $15? Fun. The website says: “Survivor’s music has been featured on “Baywatch,” Starbucks commercials and most recently the band performed on the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars.” They forgot to add:  . . . and the soundtrack to Shaunta’s childhood.

When: Friday, August 29, 9 .m.
Where: Grand Sierra Resort and Casino
How Much: Ticket prices are $15, $25, and $35

  1. I saw Survivor way way back in the day – 1987 I think. I got an autographed guitar pick after that show 😛 Would be fun to see them again, maybe I’ll do that. Thanks for the heads up.
