This Week in Reno {September 16-22}

This Week in Reno is a weekly feature. Rather than trying to put up a comprehensive list of everything happening in the upcoming week, every Tuesday I’ll post a curated list of events that are noteworthy or look like fun to me. I’ll let you know which I plan to attend, so make sure to say hey if you see me!

Last Week

My older daughter, Adrienne, and I took Ruby and some of her friends to the Nevada Museum of Art for their Second Saturday free museum day. There were two fun Nevada art projects for the kids to do, plus we got to see the exhibits. There’s a pretty amazing Civil War exhibit there now, by the way. Obviously going to a museum with five kids ages 9 and younger isn’t the best way to really absorb the exhibits, but we had a lot of fun. I’m pretty excited that the original Emancipation Proclamation will be displayed at the museum at the end of October in celebration of Nevada’s 150th birthday.

Literary Arts & Wine is a monthly literary reading series held at Uncorked in old downtown Truckee to promote the work of exceptional writers. I’ll be attending this weekend! Hope to see you there.

Where: Uncorked in downtown Truckee: 10118 Donner Pass Road #3
How much: Free–but it is at a wine bar!

The Lake Tahoe Ironman is this weekend. I think it would be amazing to be there to cheer people on. Here’s a guide for spectators.

When: Monday, September 22. See the link for more information and times and best places to see the action. Plan to get there early though!
Where: The best place to watch the swim (the first event) is Kings Beach Elementary School.
How much: Free

Peter Frampton is playing at the Grand Sierra in the Grand Theatre on Saturday. I’d love to be at this one.
When: Saturday, September 20
Where: Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, Grand Theatre
How much: $35 for the cheap tickets. My experience with this theater is that there aren’t bad seats. You can get seats closer to the stage for $65 or $85.
2014 Reno-Tahoe Music Festival
This looks like a lot of fun. The 2014 Reno Tahoe Music Festival is this weekend at the Bartley Ranch in Reno. Ten bands in two days. It’s put on by the Sierra Nevada Performing Arts Association and proceeds help provide scholarships for music students. Good music and a great cause. Plus Men Wielding Fire will be there to feed you and it looks like there will be a carnival.
When: Saturday September 20 (Rock day) and Sunday September 21 (Country day) from noon to 8 p.m. each day.
Where: Bartley Ranch, Reno
How much: $65 for reserved seating or $35 for grass seating per day in advance. $5 more at the door. Kids under 12 are free!
